Emeryville Celebration of the Arts, Inc. announces the Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition, a juried show featuring works of more than 100 artists and craftspeople - both established and emerging - who live or work in Emeryville. This year marks the 29th anniversary of the Exhibition showcasing an impressive and varied array of paintings, sculptures, photographs, ceramics and textile works. This year’s show will again expand its celebration of the arts to include poetry readings and dance performances. The Exhibition is on display October 3 - 25, 2015. The show is open daily from 11 am to 6 pm; admission is free. Each year the exhibition location is donated by an Emeryville business. This year Grifols (a global health care company) has generously donated the space at 5745 Peladeau Street. For directions and emery-go-round stop, log on to: http://www.emeryarts.org or call 510/652-6122.

There will be a gala public reception with the artists in attendance on Friday, October 2, from 6 pm to 9 pm, with live music by The doRiaN Mode: Vintage Jazz & Blues. Admission to the reception is free; a no-host bar will raise funds for the Emeryville Youth Art Program.

“Every day hundreds of artists are working in Emeryville and this juried exhibition is their yearly showcase,” explains Sharon Wilchar, exhibition coordinator. “The positive transformation of our city over the past 30 years is impressive. As a player in enhancing the cultural vibrancy of our city and engaging the community through the arts, Emeryville Celebration of the Arts is proud to have been a partner in this transformation.”

Truly a collaborative effort, Emeryville Celebration of the Arts’ annual exhibition is generously supported by the City of Emeryville and its business community, and depends heavily on the volunteer efforts of many including its Board of Directors, Advisory/Operating Committee members, artists, residents and numerous others who help pull together the details of the show. The exhibition represents the unique character of Emeryville, a city that is small in size but grand in the scale and spirit of its collective creativity. The individual pieces of artwork in the Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition demonstrate the range of Emeryville artists and show their engagement with a host of aesthetic, political, and social concerns. This inclusive citywide exhibition provides the opportunity to view the work of new artists showing along with continuing artists, resulting in a uniquely ‘Emeryville’ experience.

Along with the exciting collection of visual art, the 2015 Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition will also host poetry readings with Emeryville’s Poet Laureate Sarah Kobrinsky, joined by poets Tim Donnelly, Salame Samiat, Kathleen McClung, Vernon Keeve III and others, and will culminate on the closing day with a site-specific dance performance by Emeryville dance troupe Nancy Karp + Dancers. For the schedule of readings and performances visit >www.emeryarts.org.

Contributing artists include Susan Scott, Jeannie O’Connor and Steven Epstein, photography; Sara Paloma, Christa Assad and Rae Dunn, ceramics; Ana Lisa Hedstrom, textiles; Teresa Kalnoskas, M. Louise Stanley and John W. Wood, painting; Joseph DiStefano, Jerome Ranft and Mark Galt, sculpture; Kazuko Watanabe and Linda Lee Boyd, prints; and Po Shun Leong and Kevin Wickham, furniture design. Works on exhibit are for sale.

A jury of art professionals selects the collection of work for the Annual Exhibition through artist studio visits. For the fifth year, independent curator and exhibition designer Kathleen Hanna is serving as curator and juror. “It is delightful to see powerful developments in the work of artists who return to the exhibition as well a the many new faces that continue to appear making each Celebration new and exciting,” said Ms. Hanna of her experience as curator and exhibition designer.

The other 2015 jurors are Joe McDonald, owner, IceHouse Gallery, Petaluma; and Amina Yee, curatorial assistant, Oakland Museum of California.

“It was indeed an honor and a privilege to be invited into so many varied and interesting studios,” states juror Joe MacDonald. “I was impressed with the quality of the art which made for a difficult selection process, but I believe the show itself will reflect not our hard work so much as the hard work and creativity of all of the artists in Emeryville.”

“This exhibition showcases the diversity, creativity, and dedication of Emeryville artists and I am pleased that it will allow others to experience the marvelous works of this incredibly talented community,” added juror Amina Yee.

Sponsors for the 29th Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition include the City of Emeryville through a substantial grant; Kava Massih Architects; Pixar Animation Studios; Libitzky Holdings LP, Orton Development, Eric S. Schmier and Kenneth J. Schmier; 4Terra Investments; Wareham Development; Madison Park and Ruby*s Cafe.
