curator statement
The 22nd Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition presents a grand showcase of artists who live or work in Emeryville This is a juried show celebrating the many talents who work in many varied mediums. You will see a great range of diverse directions also represented. Each year there is a changing roster of artists with many new artists joining artists who have shown for many years.
Artists are always changing and reacting to the many turns of society and culture. We also see constant advancements in new techniques. Foremost is the pervasive influence of computer technologies and digital imaging. Even traditional artists are not immune to the mega information/computer world. The digital age is upon us with images, information, and new reproduction resources creating an energized maelstrom around us all. Artist's options increasingly expand. We have a lot to see and digest. We see known and new.
This year, Svea Lin Vezzone, Director of Swarm Gallery, Oakland; and Maria Medua, Director of SFMOMA Artists Gallery, San Francisco served as jurors joining me in selecting the artists and works. Sharon Wilchar, Project Coordinator, oversees and pieces together all the challenging details that make the show possible. We appreciate all the donors, volunteers, the City of Emeryville, and the Emeryville Exhibition Operating Committee who willingly give so much in making this art event a success. And the result of all these helping hands crafts an exhibition that shines with the creative efforts of 90 Emeryville artists.
